The Gerontech and Innovation Expo Cum Summit 2018
A Four-Day Public Event at HKCEC
【Press release on 22 November 2018】The second Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit (GIES) officially commenced today. Co-hosted by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government and co-organised by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), GIES will be held from November 22 to 25 at Hall 1A-1B, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Around 130 local and international exhibitors will showcase about 380 innovation products and ideas. Some products are even exhibited for the first time in Hong Kong. The Expo, the plenary sessions of the Summit and the workshops will be open to the public for free.
"GIES is about closing the knowledge gap, providing a platform for dialogues and insights exchange. Gerontech is not only rocket science, it aims at helping the elderly to live in the community and institutions comfortably, healthily and independently while remaining closely connected to the community and their families." The Hon. Mr. Bernard Chan, Chairperson of HKCSS addressed.
The Expo covers 8,424-square-metre exhibition floor with 5 featured pavilions which are Smarter and Safer Home, Healthy Eating for Seniors, Gerontech Equipment Rental Service, Interactive Zone and Wheelchair Trial Zone.
The Summit will enable stakeholders from different parts of the world and disciplines to exchange views and share experience in order to shed light on the strategy for further promoting development of gerontechnology in Hong Kong. The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Dr Law Chi-kwong, will deliver a keynote speech on the theme of "Policies Supporting the Application of Innovation and Technology in Elderly and Rehabilitation Care". Another keynote speaker, Mr Thomas Hammer-Jakobsen, the Founder and Partner of Denmark Copenhagen Living Lab, will share about "The Future of Health is a Way of Life – Role of Different Stakeholders in the Emerging Gerontech-ecology".
Over 20 workshops will open for public with focuses on specific streams of telehealth, ageing in place, risk monitoring, application of robots and fall prevention.
HKCSS would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the funders including Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC), The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and China Merchants Charitable Foundation.
